Charity Minibus Insurance FAQs
What licence/permit do I need for my charity minibus?
For your charity minibus, you’ll most likely need a Section 19 permit. This allows you to transport up to sixteen people, not including the driver, for not-for-profit purposes. Most charities automatically qualify for a Section 19 permit, but it’s best to check with the relevant authority if you’re unsure.
Is my charity able to have a limited use policy?
If you only use your minibus at certain times of the year, such as for events, or drive very few miles, you may be able to get limited use policies which can be cheaper in some circumstances. Your specialist broker at Keith Michaels will be able to advise.
Are volunteers covered to drive our minibus?
Yes, all volunteers are covered to drive, they don’t need to be paid members of staff to be able to drive your minibus. You’ll just need to provide us with their driving licence details, and update when new volunteers join or leave. As long as they meet the requirements of your policy, which may include experience or age-related restrictions, volunteers are able to drive minibuses.
