Rolls-Royce’s ‘Ghost’ naming first came about in 1907 when they produced ‘The Silver Ghost’;, a car that Rolls drove non-stop on a 15,000-mile trip to prove its reliability to the public. It wasn’t until 1925 that the Ghost name was officially recognised. However, when Rolls- Royce was bought by BMW, the Silver Ghost was not included in the sale, and the model driven on this 15,000-mile trip is now in the hands of Bentley.
Today, the Ghost is representative of a more ‘affordable’ Rolls-Royce when compared to the Phantom. However, this description certainly doesn’t impede on its luxury or authority in any way. Though smaller than the Phantom, it’s a Rolls to be driven, not chauffeured.
The car is available in standard and extended-wheelbase versions, packing a 6.6l V12 with 563bhp. So, when gliding along the tarmac isn’t enough, you can rest assured that 60mph is met in no time at all – from 0 it takes just 4.8 seconds.
Inside, the car is luxurious, with piano black wood trim, dyed leather and chrome fittings everywhere you turn. The standard and EWB models come with 19in alloy wheels, carpet, floor mats, adaptive LED headlights, DVD player, Bluetooth, USB connectivity and walnut burr.
