After six years of partnership, Mercedes and McLaren eventually parted ways, however this memorable joint venture between Woking and Stuttgart won’t be forgotten. The Mercedes Mclaren SLR was first sold in coupe and roadster form from 2003 onwards. Initially, 500 SLRs were delivered in the first year, powered by 5.4 L V8 engines producing 626 horsepower. This resulted in an impressive 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds.
Over the years more models and special editions were released, including the 722 edition, which had 33 more horses than standard and an all important 2 seconds shaved off of the 0-60 time. The 722 name was derived from the start time (7.22 am) of the victory won by Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. Subsequently, the striking Stirling Moss edition was named after the racing driver himself.
