The Jaguar XF is the Jaguar XE’s bigger brother. It was introduced in 2008 to replace the ageing S type; Jaguar wanted to define the future of motoring without compromising its authoritative image of refinement, polish and power.
The XF’s second generation was introduced in 2015; it followed in the XK’s footsteps making extensive use of aluminium. 75% of the chassis is aluminium which shaves 190kg off the cars weight. In spite of Jaguar’s 2008 purchase by Tata and Ford ownership prior they remain keen to emphasise their British roots, making light of their traditional image. The XF was at the front of Jaguars “British Villains” campaign which emphasised the stereotype of Jaguars being driven by a certain class of miscreant.
The release of the XF was a direct challenges to Mercedes, BMW and Audi, the traditional leaders in the sector. It offers an alternative to the driver seeking the combination of sporting luxury, stimulating performance and emotional engineering.
