A successor to the Ferrari 288 GTO, this high performance two-seater sports car was built to celebrate 40 years of Ferrari – and it certainly made its mark. Built from 1987 to 1992, production was intended to be limited to just 400-500 units, however huge demand resulted in 1,315 units being sold.
The car made use of advanced material sciences that were relatively unknown at the time; it incorporates carbon fibre and bonded Kevlar panels. These materials, alongside its famously simplistic interior and cloth bucket seats, means that the car is super-lightweight.
In addition to its sleek, weight-saving design, the F40 houses a mid-mounted 2.9 litre twin turbo V8, capable of producing 471 bhp. Weight and power combined, the car produces a bewildering 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds, and a claimed top speed of 201mph.
