The R8 is a tantalising vehicle, the apex of performance, design and technology despite its power it remains a surprisingly practical super car. Since its release the car has gone from strength to strength selling 28,600 models and acting as Audi’s prestigious flagship.
The car is a monster, with incredible speed and performance. Its story began with the success of Audis R8 Le Mans prototype. A concept super car was unveiled at the 2003 Frankfurt motor show to celebrate Audi’s continued racing dominance. This was the Audi R8 Le Mans Quattro concept. The first generation R8 entered production in 2006.
The R8 received a visual facelift in 2012 with a second generation being released in 2015. The 2nd generation saw a switch from Lamborghini’s Gallardo platform to the new Huracán platform. With it came improvements to the power and weight. The car features an Aluminium and Carbon fibre composite construction.
The second generation R8 no longer features a V8 model, with its two models divided into the V10 and V10 plus. The V10 plus has 610 BHP and puts the R8 firmly in the big leagues of super car performance as Audi’s first 200 mph car.
The R8 is calm and comfortable at low speed, morphing when you open the throttle. It is an adaptable car with a broad appeal.
