About the Mitsubishi Airtrek Turbo R
Introduced back in 2002, the Airtrek was the forerunner of the Outlander SUV. Outside of the Evo community not many drivers will have seen or heard of this particular model, but the Airtrek Turbo R does have the same engine as an Evo VII, just with different power outputs subject to its intended market.
The Airtrek name was dropped in 2006 when the next generation, now named the Outlander, was introduced. With VW and PSA group’s diesels engines being used in the new range nothing quite like the Turbo R has been produced since!
Evo purists might comment that handling won’t be quite the same as they’re used to, but that’s because the Airtrek has a higher ground clearance and does not have the same differentials. That said the Turbo R is 40mm lower than a standard Airtrek and does come with the usual air scoop and alloy wheels. Internally you get electric windows and mirrors, full air-con, and central locking. On the safety front you have ABS and airbags in the front.
