A DR50 conviction is a serious offence, which means you’ll need specialist car insurance when you return to the road, otherwise you will be up against high premiums. Read on to find out more about the DR50 penalty.

How You Got A DR50 Conviction Code

A DR50 conviction code relates to the offence of being in charge of a vehicle when unfit to drive due to alcohol. Being ‘in charge of a vehicle’ doesn’t mean that you were necessarily driving it, but it can be that you were found inside your car with your keys, and deemed unfit to drive due to alcohol consumption. Even if you are not over the legal limit, you can still face a conviction.

DR50 Penalty

After a DR50 conviction, you are likely to receive 10 penalty points that will stay on your licence for four years. You may alternatively face a driving disqualification instead of points, and you could also face a fine, a community order or even a prison sentence.
