Minibus Insurance for Sports Clubs
If you need to transport your team to an away game, friendly, or competitive league, we provide minibus insurance that helps you and your team get to the competition safely. You’ll most likely need a Section 19 Permit for Sport Club use, and our insurance will give you the level of cover you need.

Minibus Insurance FAQs
What type of licence/permit do I need to drive a minibus?
This will depend on how you use the minibus, and for what reason. It may be a Section 19 permit, Section 22 permit or a D1 Entitlement.
Section 19 Permit
This is granted for those who operate vehicles for organised groups, educational services or similar. If you do not carry members of the general public, and don’t profit from the minibus use, you’ll most likely use a Section 19 permit.
Section 22 Permit
Section 22 covers you to carry members of the public, such as a not-for-profit community bus service. It can also be used in charity situations where members of the public are carried along with those who benefit from the charity.
D1 Licence Entitlement
Most people who drive a minibus will end up taking a D1 licence test, as it allows them to provide for-profit minibus services if required. However, if you passed your test after 1st January 1997, you will need a D1 entitlement regardless of how the minibus is used.
What type of insurance do I need for a minibus?
Minibus insurance is available from third party to fully comprehensive. It is up to you to choose the best policy, although our brokers will work to find the best cover and policy for your unique needs.
Do I need special insurance for a minibus?
Yes, you cannot use your car insurance to cover a minibus. Depending on how you use your minibus will affect the type of insurance you need. A specialist broker like Keith Michaels can help to determine which type of minibus insurance you will need and find a competitive quote.
