The Cullinan is a large luxury all-wheel drive SUV manufactured by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in the UK. The vehicle is named after the Cullinan Diamond which is one of the largest rough diamonds ever discovered.
There were many rumours that Rolls Royce would make an SUV because its competitors such as Bentley and Lamborghini were doing so, who subsequently launched the Bentayga and the Urus. Early in 2015, Rolls Royce said they were considering a SUV and later in the year they confirmed that a SUV would be shown in 2018 and on sale in 2019. The Cullinan was now official and was revealed in May 2018.
Following in the Rolls Royce traditions, the Cullinan had to have the required “magic carpet” ride even though it was a high SUV. To achieve this, Rolls fitted self-levelling air suspension, electronically controlled dampers and active anti-roll bars. Additionally, it is fitted with cameras that scan the road ahead and adjust the suspension to provide the best ride as possible. With these systems in place Rolls Royce stated that the ride experience had not been compromised and retained the required “Magic Carpet Ride” experience.
The Cullinan’s starting price is £264,000 but very few Rolls-Royces leave the Goodwood factory without having been made to their buyer’s exact needs; matching colours inside and out, 2 or 3 rear seat layout options, Champagne cooler, unique dashboard, all weather floor mats, personalised headrests are only a few of the many options from the extensive list which is only limited by the customer’s imagination!!
