The Range Rover is now in its fourth generation (as of 2012) but the original was launched to great praise back in 1970 as a 3-door vehicle with four-wheel drive and the famous split tailgate. It was not until 1981 that a 4-door version was produced.

The Range Rover is at the top of Land Rover’s SUV tree being the largest of the range. The current models have the choice of two petrol (5.0-litre 370bhp V8 and 502bhp Supercharged V8) and two diesel (3.0-litre 254bhp TDV6 and 4.4-litre 334bhp SDV8) engines, all attach to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Range Rover has a permanent four-wheel drive system together with a transfer box and other technical gismos that we suspect most customers do not really know about but just appreciate it works! The days of manually moving gearbox levers are well and truly gone! The latest models also have a system which monitors the ground conditions and automatically optimises the vehicle settings. If customers do want to be involved, they can help by selecting a setting for grass, gravel, snow, mud, sand, and rock crawl for both up and down hill.

To provide the required level of comfort when on the move the Range Rover has electronic air suspension with variable ride height together with an automatic load levelling mechanism. This system continually monitors the vehicles movements, reacting to conditions and driver input to reduce the amount of body roll thereby improving the vehicles stability.
